Mrs Merle Jenkins died early 1970's

MRS MERLE JENKINS
Died early 1970s.

While I, the blogger, remembers
Merle and was pleased to find
her grave, I realised there was
really nothing I knew about her.
She lived along with
Mrs Walker, Annie Clarke and
Evelyn Rebello (sister
of Olympian Henry Rebello)
at A1 Lawrence Terrace, Lucknow.
March 13, 2019
That changed quite suddenly this
week when a comment was added
to this post by Merle's grandson's
wife, Melissa Rogers!
Merle was a music teacher, with some
indication that her sister, Gladys also
taught in St Helens, Kurseong, or one of
the other Darjeeling schools.
Further, Merle married David Jenkins
at St Joseph's Church (today's Cathedral),
Lucknow in 1940.
She had a son Maurice Rogers who
had adopted his mother's maiden name
while settling in the UK. He later
emigrated to Australia. Maurice
was survived by a son, Cameron.
It is Melissa, his wife, who
has set out to find out all there is
to know about her husband's family.
Melissa said she wants their
daughter to know something
about her heritage!

I have taken the liberty to share
some of the information I have
received in the hope that somewhere
someone, perhaps a student that Merle
Jenkins (nee Rogers) or Gladys Rogers
taught, will remember them and
perhaps add a comment

  1. I remember this - my mum had visited Mrs Walker the previous day on her way home from work and found Mrs Jenkins very ill. She took her to hospital and when she died the next day, the hospital contacted my mother. I remember my mother feeling very sad because Mrs Jenkins had no family to mourn for her, but I was young enough to think that that was a good thing.
By the way, here is the link to the AI website I was telling you about with the In Memoriam section, besides the main one on finding lost friends and relatives:

  2. Thanks! With the passage of time it becomes harder to find anyone who remembers. I first thought she had died at the Homes then I remembered she died LT.

  3. Hi, I am hoping that this is the same Merle Jenkins I have been searching for. Do you know if she was a music teacher? My husband's grandmother's name was Merle Jenkins and we have been trying to find information about her.
    Kind regards,
    Melissa Rogers
