In Loving Memory of
GEORGE ECCLESTON
LA MARTINIERE COLLEGE, LUCKNOW

WHO DIED ON APRIL 6TH 1910
AGED 59 YEARS
           -----
PEACE PERFECT PEACE
           --------
THE CUP WAS BITTER THE STING SEVERE
TO PART WITH ONE WE LOVE SO DEAR
THE TRIAL IS HARD WE'LL NOT COMPLAIN
BUT TRUST IN CHRIST TO MEET AGAIN

(Nishatganj Cemetery)

(George was the Junior Sgt at La Martiniere College, according to Fibis database.
A Eccleston is on the Roll of Honour 1914-1918 at La Martiniere College, which means he represented the college in WWI. Would that mean he was the son of George? The database also mentions
a Lizzie Eccleston who was at La Martiniere Girls School in 1897)

RB and Lianne Pearce thank you for your comments! For some strange reason my
reply isn't getting published. Attempts to have it rectified have failed, a very humbling experience for someone who thinks he controls what gets published!!

  1. Yes Albert Ecleston is the son of George and Lizzie is his sister. They were quite a large family. One other brother Charles, I believe, died at the siege of Kut-al-Almera. Their mother was called Eliza Pearce but I cannot find out much about her. Any help welcome

  2. I believe Eliza Pearce is my gr gr great aunt. She was born 27 MARCH, 1868 Bellary, East Indies [Madras records]. Her father: Thomas Pearce 28 JAN 1839 • Spitalfields, Whitechapel, Middlesex, England died 26TH MARCH 1899 • Bangalore, Tamil Nadu, India. Her mother Eliza Morton b 1850/1 India. Ancestry DNA connects my Pearce family tree with Ecclestone family trees. I have an incomplete record of their children. Regards Lianne Pearce.
