In Lucknow, as in other parts of the world, graves mean little to some people, but a search on the internet proves otherwise! What one will find on this blog isn't even 'a drop in the vast ocean' of tears that would have been shed if it were possible to calculate. Bailey Guard Cemetery (Updated)

These pictures of the Bailey Guard Cemetery were taken several years ago. The cemetery is located in the Aliganj part of Lucknow coming under the Mandiaon police circle which was the Cantonment at the time of the mutiny. Subsequently, for strategic purposes or whatever it was moved to the present location.

Monday January 19. 2015: Was happy to see that the ASI has
finally taken the Bailey Guard Cemetery in hand. Sadly, however,
only one grave is in good condition while the others have the stone
inscriptions missing.

BORN MAY 30 1866
DIED JAN 30 1868
According to FIBIS records
Isabel Durand the 1 year old
daughter of Maj Gen Sir HM Durand
died on March 12 1868 at Cawnpore.Were there two Isabels?

A big thanks for including this site in your blog. My home is hardly a kilometre away from this monument, and discovering during one of my cycling expedition in my childhood inspired an awe for history in me. Thank You!
