Lt.Col Terry Nolan 1924-1965

Lt Col Terry Nolan, the Maratha Light Infantry, Born Nov 24, 1924 killed in action at Husainiwala (Punjab) on Sept 21, 1965.
If memory serves me well, Col Nolan was killed when a shell fired by the Pakistanis
exploded near him shortly before (or after) a ceasefire had been called. His son Michael studied at La Martiniere College, Lucknow and daughter Maureen at the girls' school. Not long after their tragic loss the  family moved to Australia.

her mother was told the she passed away in 2012
at the age of 95.

  1. It was another World. I wonder what he would think at having this message appearing instantly on a computer screen anywhere in the World. He might have enjoyed some of the computer games.
    Real feelings,

The above post is by his younger brother Vernon- he also has a Sister here in Australia.Does that gravesite still exist, would you know? Would really love to know, Thanks so much for everything, George!

  3. Hi Maureen,
Sorry about your mum but she lived to a good age! There are some things that remain with us and your dad's death was something that has remained fresh. The purpose of my blog is served when I know people have visited it. I'd seen Michael in a couple of group pics over the last couple of years. The grave should still be there though I've not visited that portion of the cemetery in the last several months. Shall take another look when I'm there. An uncle and my late cousin, Mrs Flynn's husband are buried nearby. I'm happy that your son came across the blog. Remember the purpose of my blog is to try and preserve the memory of our dear departed as long as possible especially where graves disintegrate and disappear. Hope you see my response sooner than I took to see your note. I thank you Maureen for appreciating my effort.

  4. I remember we were all in formation outside our chapel when La Martiniere held a special memorial service for Col. Nolan. The moment Mrs Nolan, daughter and Mike walked up the steps toward he chapel the sky had darkened and there was a slight drizzle. It was a heart rending scene for me as I knew what it was like - had just lost my dad a few years earlier when I was 11. That picture is clearly embedded in my memory. It was like 'even the heavens cried that day'.
