In Lucknow, as in other parts of the world, graves mean little to some people, but a search on the internet proves otherwise! What one will find on this blog isn't even 'a drop in the vast ocean' of tears that would have been shed if it were possible to calculate. The names, the sad poetry, quotes and expression of grief of the loved ones all being ground to dust.
"...We always say that the history of a parish is in its graveyards..." Passage West (from a blog and book by Jim Murphy)

Hi Connor, If you were to check more of the posts you would notice I try to write something about the dead wherever possible. I contact people and in many cases I've consulted fibis.org. Could you tell me what your connection is to William Hickie and whether you have followed up on Kathy T Kate's comment below! You could email me at geohspd@gmail.com Thanks George Shepherd Lucknow, India

You have written that William Hickie was you grandfather. Do you belong to the Hickie family that was in Lucknow right till the 1980s? Mrs Hickie spent her last years in the Crostwaithe Homes and her sister Mrs Robertson(?) is still here and in good health. Have you found the family link to Connor Smith? You could email me at geohspd@gmail.com Thanks George Shepherd
Nice, that looks like one of my family.
ReplyDeleteYou're a member of BACSA? They really need people on the ground.
Thanks
