In Lucknow, as in other parts of the world, graves mean little to some people, but a search on the internet proves otherwise! What one will find on this blog isn't even 'a drop in the vast ocean' of tears that would have been shed if it were possible to calculate. The names, the sad poetry, quotes and expression of grief of the loved ones all being ground to dust.
"...We always say that the history of a parish is in its graveyards..." Passage West (from a blog and book by Jim Murphy)

In Memory of DAVID INFANT SON OF CAPTAIN AND MRS R.B. JOHNSON BORN 1ST NOVEMBER 1912 DIED 29TH DECEMBER 1912
George, thank you for posting all of these photos. I lived in Bangalore for seven years, my wife is India and my Anglo-India children were all born in Bangalore. Whilst there I photographed some of the British graves and monuments in cemeteries and churches in Bangalore.
I am particularly interested in the Residency cemetery. Is it still largely intact is my first question. The second question is whether you know if the surviving graves have been documented and/or photographed at all? I understand that there are around 2000 graves dating to the 1857 uprising.
Best wishes - and feel free to email me: paulcanixon@yahoo.co.uk
