of Peter George Vanspall

The most common material used in

construction of monuments was definitely

sandstone followed by marble, whereas,

the economy class, the graves covered 

 with plaster had the name etched into the

 plaster.

There was another grave constructed

from the same material where I was

unable to identify a single letter. Two or

three other monuments were similar to this one.

 This material seems to have been used for a 

short period, alongside stone and

was then discontinued for whatever

reason. This appears to be a mixture

of fine pebbles with whatever they used 

as cement. Colour would have

made this a mosaic.

In the 1990's for a short while mosaic

was used for graves and again, like

the above, was discontinued when

the demand for marble and granite

increased. 

The supply of these materials increased

has along with the development of

the city.
