In Lucknow, as in other parts of the world, graves mean little to some people, but a search on the internet proves otherwise! What one will find on this blog isn't even 'a drop in the vast ocean' of tears that would have been shed if it were possible to calculate. The names, the sad poetry, quotes and expression of grief of the loved ones all being ground to dust.
"...We always say that the history of a parish is in its graveyards..." Passage West (from a blog and book by Jim Murphy)

Dr S.P Tewarson 1934-1991
In Loving Memory of DR S.P. TEWARSON Principal and President Lucknow Christian College Born 1-6-1934 Died 18-6-1991
For two months in early 1974, I was a student in Grade 12 of Lucknow Christian College, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India.
My previous school went upto Grade 11 (in those days), followed by an examination leading to the Indian School Certificate (previously known as Senior Cambridge). The academic year ran from Jan to Dec, in cotrast to most Indian academic years running from June/July to March/April. I could appear for IIT Entrance exams in May 1974, which I did, and I then joined a 5-year BTech (Electronics Engg) at the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (now called IIT-BHU).
There was the matter of three months of education in early 1974. My Dad asked me to join the Lucknow Christian College. I did not like the college, but I did have the pleasure of the company of @Raj Krishna Nagar, my classmate at the previous school.
The principal of Lucknow Christian College was a man named S. P. Tewarson. I would wonder about that name. The man was definitely Indian, but his last name was more in tune with Scandinavian names, and indeed sounded like being derived from "Tewari’s son”. Tewari (or Tiwari) is a common last name for Brahmins in Uttar Pradesh.
Anyhow, Mr. Tewarson was a bulldog of a man, as I remember him now. He rarely spoke to students, but I had spoken to him briefly in his office when I had requested admission to his college. He let me know that I would not be a student for long in his college.
Mr. Tewarson was known to be physicist, but I had no indication then that he was active in research.
Today, while looking at a preprint posted on arXiv, I found a reference to a 1967 paper of “S. P. Tewarson”. Guessing that there could have been only one person by that name in those days, I checked him out on the Web of Science. Indeed, he was the same person, except that he was then a professor (full, no less) at Ewing Christian College, Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. I found that he had published 7 research papers from 1966 to 1969, all on the Stokes vector and the Mueller matrix, important topics in classical optics. Although I do not work on those topics, optics is a principal area of my research interest.
My name is Dr Prayag Narayan Misra, now settled in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. I was a student of Dr S P Tewarson in 1955-1958 .He taught Physics at Ewing Christian College.I also joined Ethics class conducted by him. Yes, he was son of a Tewary Brahman who was outcasted and converted to become Christian. Later , he moved to Lucknow Christian College and became its Principal. As far as I remember, he was very friendly and man of the earth-freely joking and mixing with students. He was very fair in color and bit stout to his height. My regards to him.
