one in the foreground, a death that must have
taken place sometime recently

Labourers white washing monuments are never instructed not to
touch the plaque with the inscription as a result one
is unable to read what is on it.

Nellie and her husband, Jem were ex-railway
people who lived at No. 14 Lawrence Terrace.
When the shift was made from the old building
to the new blocks of flats they moved into No. A 8 LT.
I have yet to discover Mr Lumsden's and the 
Monks's graves.

(Aunt Sibyl was an accomplished artist

in her younger days. She worked in oils)

Minnie was the sister of Dr Ernest Towning,

Maj Herbert Towning and 

Alfred Towning. 

I am unaware

of any other siblings.

The family decades earlier 

lived in 

Hilton Lane opposite 

the Larkins family 

and at one 

time at La Martiniere College

as their father was the Sergt Supdt 

(grub sergeant). Major Towning after

retiring from the Indian Army spent 

six years as the grub sergeant like his father.

Alfred Towning lived in Allahabad and worked

for the electric supply. Ernest and Minnie

later lived at 11 Outram Road where Ernest

died in 1958. He was buried in the Bandaryabagh Cem.

where his parents were als laid to rest. I have failed

to find their graves though many years ago

I had seen Ernest's grave. Maj T and his

wife, Lorna (nee Hanby) followed their children

to the UK where he died in 1979. Lorna died

in 2007, according to grandson Arun Srivastava

Yes, the pic I sent you was of Leonard Stanley Birch in his 
railway guard's uniform. Unclle Denno and Bunbun should
remember him as would have my dad and Eva (Clarkson nee Bayley).
Married about thrice, my great grandmother (Dad's mother's mother) was
a Winnifred Guillot, she died in August 1915 in Lucknow. Leonard's
mother Isabella Maria Harding also died in Lucknow. Isabella was alive
when my grandfather remarried and, by my calculations, died
in the mid to late 1920's.

ran a confectionery specialising
in wedding cakes. I had no idea when
he had passed on, till I came across
his grave on Friday. He had made my
parents wedding cake in December, 1946
and almost thirty years later, in February
1976, my cake.
Several days earlier I came across
the grave of Alma Charles Moses. Now, I do
not know whether she was Charles' widow,
something I need to check, or whether she
was his daughter-in-law. Many years ago
the Moses family had to leave the old
confectionery premises which was
apparently rented. The sons continued
the business independently using
their fathers name. Now at least one
son has passed on and his son has
taken over.
