In Lucknow, as in other parts of the world, graves mean little to some people, but a search on the internet proves otherwise! What one will find on this blog isn't even 'a drop in the vast ocean' of tears that would have been shed if it were possible to calculate. The names, the sad poetry, quotes and expression of grief of the loved ones all being ground to dust. "...We always say that the history of a parish is in its graveyards..." Eric Wilfred James died 1943
Dorothy |
About two years back I had a request from Richard James who lives the UK, asking me to try and find his father's resting place. His request came after he found my guava gardens blog.
Richard who is now 80 years old said his dad, a railwayman, died quite suddenly in 1943 when he and his sister, Mary, were small. Richard was born in 1935. His sister was younger. I checked but was unable to find the email where he had given family details.
His mother had left the family so the two children were on their own in Lucknow with grand parents in Bangalore. However, arrangements were made for them to attend schools in Mussoorie. I presume it was Oak Grove, a school for railway children!
Later Richard and Mary were sent to the UK by their grandparents who lived in Bangalore
