Reserving burial space can cause
scarcity and an irrational fear that when needed there will be not burial space!
A Central Waqf Board has called for an end to buying and selling for profit, burial plots in Muslim cemeteries that is making it difficult for the poorer classes to bury their dead. In the Lucknow cemeteries what I have noticed is that the speed of old memorials being destroyed has increased along with the reservation of burial space. Most people will not even remember that beautiful angels and crosses adorned many of these graves! So, what happened to them? Have they been sold
as pieces of art to unsuspecting collectors?
