Stella worked with my mother at Lucknow Publishing House on Cantonment Road, Lucknow. I remember Stella - she was always ribbing the chowkidar [Take Bahadhur]at The Publishing House.Take was a Gurkha who spoke a very distinctive form of English. For him "66' was always "shitty six". Stella had a most distinctive laugh - I can still hear its distinctive echo and rasp..And of course when I popped in to see Ma she always said 'How's Johnnie?"
