Alfred James Edwardes died 1909

In Loving Memory
of
ALFRED JAMES EDWARDES
WHO DIED AT LUCKNOW 21ST JUNE
1909
AGED 32 YEARS 6 MONTHS
*
SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JUSUS

(Nishatganj cemetery, Lucknow)

(In 1903 Alfred and Aileen had lost their
baby daughter, Olive Eveline.)

From Lynda Troidl: Alfred James Edwards full name was Alfred
Thornleigh James Edwardes. His father was a James Thornleigh
Carter Edwardes but the 'e' appears to have dropped now and again.
I believe James was born in England and the marriage registry when he married Eveline Ellen Derridan Dudman in Oct 1871 (@Allahabad) indicates he was a widower. His son George Edwards was Alfred's half brother as they were both James's sons. George married a Elizabeth Rebecca Beach (Feb 1884 in Dinapore) and one of their sons was Leonard Oliver Verne Edwardes, father of
Gerry Edwardes, who married Dorothea Birch, daughter of Leonard Stanley Birch.
(Lynda Troidl is a descendant)

How the grave looked then and now (above)

Alfred was the father of Keith Thornleigh Edwardes (pic) of the
Post and Telegraph Dept at Lucknow.  The pic was provided
by his granddaughter, Amy from Australia. Keith and his wife
Annette (nee Murphy) and their only daughter, Alison
lived in Lawrence Terrace when they left for Australia cir 1960.
Alison passed on last year in Brisbane and is survived
by a daughter Amy and a son

  1. Hello, I was wondering where this is located? I have a family photograph and it is my great-grandfathers grave.

  2. Hi Amy,
Sorry that I didn't see your comment earlier. If you have been over my blog you would have noticed that I try to link graves when I know there's a relationship. Also buried in this Lucknow cemetery is a Leonard or Lenord Verne Edwardes 1901-1961.
Would you know whether Leonard was a relative?
Could you share any information on your great grandfather - e.g. where he worked, his wife, did she died in Lucknow as well?
My email georgeshepherdlkw@gmail.com If you have any questions please email me
    Thanks for the comment
    Kind regards George Shepherd
